Business Development Manager (High-Risk Payments & EMI)
We’re supporting a fintech / EMI-focused company in hiring a Business Development Manager to build and scale a medium & high-risk merchant offering from the ground up. This is a senior, ownership-driven role at the intersection of business development, product design, and partnerships, with direct visibility at CEO level.
The role is remote, includes occasional business travel, and offers the flexibility to work from the office for candidates based in locations where the company has a presence. It is ideal for someone who understands both how high-risk payments actually work and how to turn that knowledge into a scalable commercial product.
What You’ll Do
- Define business and product requirements for an EMI offering serving high-risk merchants (gaming, gambling, affiliate marketing, crypto).
- Design end-to-end payment flows, including:
- Assigned IBANs
- Collections & payouts
- FX logic
- Settlement models
- Crypto on-/off-ramps
- Structure merchant account models, pricing & fee frameworks, limits, and settlement logic suitable for high-risk profiles.
- Identify, negotiate with, and onboard FI / PSP / crypto partners aligned with high-risk industries.
- Lead the MVP launch as Product Owner together with an assigned Project Manager, using existing infrastructure with minimal add-ons.
- Define and own the post-MVP scaling roadmap.
- Work closely with compliance and risk teams to ensure alignment with AML, KYB, transaction monitoring, and licensing constraints.
- Actively source, onboard, and manage high-risk clients within the target industries.
- Build and own a scalable acquisition model and commercial organization for this segment.
- Serve as a bridge between business, compliance, operations, and tech teams.
What You Bring
- Solid experience in payments, EMI, or fintech.
- Strong understanding of risk, compliance, and licensing constraints in high-risk industries.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into clear, actionable product and operational requirements.
- Entrepreneurial mindset — execution-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, fast timelines, and MVP-first environments.
- Existing network in gaming, gambling, affiliate marketing, or crypto ecosystems is a strong advantage.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills; able to operate at partner, executive, and operational levels.
- Based in the EU or a compatible time zone; open to occasional business travel.
